Mediant chords, also known as minor iii chords, are criminally under-utilized.
Ok, it's my opinion that they're underutilized. But a Hook Theory study did show that it's the least common of the diatonic triads of the Major key (besides the diminished vii°).
Overall, you probably aren't using a iii chord enough and should just start to use it more, but if you are already utilizing it, how do we spice it up? How do we make our iii chords sound more interesting and different?
