4 Do's And Don'ts Of Writing A Song Hook
Sep 04, 2021A song hook can almost single-handedly redeem an otherwise underwhelming song.
A great hook can also make a great song even better.
If a song hook is a non-vocal part, it is the single most important instrumental part of the entire song.
If it is a part of the vocals, we already knew vocals are the most important part of any song! Obviously only if it has vocals.
Some iconic hooks are:
- “Under Pressure” by Queen or “Ice Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice
- “7 Nation Army” by White Stripes “bass line” (really a guitar)
- “Yeah” by Usher
- “Iron Man” by Black Sabbath
- “Smoke On The Water” by Deep Purple
- “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana
- “Funky Town” by Lipps Inc
- “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder
It’s hard to even imagine those songs without their iconic hooks. So, in this episode, we’re going to break down the 4 do’s and don’ts of writing song hooks!
